CAKES AND PIES/GRANDMA KATIE'S

   BANANA NUT CAKE

Original Recipe by:  Mary Katherine Kelly Ricketts

Sift together:

2 1/2 cup flour

1 2/3 cup sugar

1 1/4 tsp. baking powder

1 1/4 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

add:

2/3 cup shortening

1/3 cup buttermilk

1 1/4 cup mashed bananas

Beat for 2 minutes

add:

2 large eggs and beat 2 minutes more

Fold in 2/3 cup chopped nuts

Bake in greased layer pans on 350 degree for

30 to 35 minutes.  Sheet cake for 45 minutes
